Board service is an opportunity to put your professional expertise, leadership and community relationships to work for local children in need. Our board provides strategic leadership, helps guide the organization’s future and supports the volunteers, staff and community partners who make our work possible.
Whether your background is in business, finance, legal, education, healthcare, marketing or community leadership, your experience can help strengthen our organization and its ability to reach more children.

Your next opportunity to help feed local food-insecure children is easier to find. Serving Our Kids is using POINT, our new volunteer platform, to bring available volunteer dates together in one calendar and make signing up more convenient.
Visit servingourkids.org and follow the volunteer calendar to see upcoming opportunities and choose the dates that work for you. Whether you are a returning volunteer or joining us for the first time, you will need a POINT.app account and a completed online waiver for yourself and any minor children volunteering with you. Children must now be at least seven years old to volunteer. We love seeing families volunteer together, helping instill compassion, generosity and a commitment to serving others from a young age.
One important reminder: creating your account does not reserve your place at a volunteer event. Once your account is confirmed, return to the calendar and sign up for the specific public event you want to attend.

More than a decade ago, Dale Darcas founded Serving Our Kids with a simple but powerful vision: to ensure children in our community had nutritious food to take home on the weekends. What began as providing 20 weekend meal bags each week has grown into something truly extraordinary.
In 2023, Dale retired as Founder and Executive Director of Serving Our Kids and entrusted me with carrying his vision forward. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to continue growing the mission he began.
Today, because of the unwavering support of our sponsors, donors, volunteers, community partners, and Board of Directors, Serving Our Kids continues to fulfill that vision. I am incredibly proud to share that this school year we will provide more than 6,000 weekend meal bags each week to children experiencing food insecurity throughout Southern Nevada.
This milestone belongs to every person who has believed in our mission. Thank you to every volunteer, donor, sponsor, community partner, and board member whose generosity, compassion, and dedication have made this achievement possible. Together, we are changing lives, one weekend meal bag at a time.
As I prepare to retire from my role as Volunteer CEO later this year, I find myself reflecting on the incredible people who have made this journey so meaningful. It has truly been a privilege to serve alongside so many compassionate individuals who share one common goal: ensuring no child goes hungry.
Your generosity, encouragement, partnership, and friendship have meant more to me than words can express. Together, we have made a lasting difference in the lives of thousands of children, and I have every confidence that the future of Serving Our Kids has never been brighter.

Serving Our Kids is entering the new school year with its largest expansion to date. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, volunteers, community partners and sponsors, we will provide more than 6,000 weekend meal bags every week throughout the school year to food-insecure children across Southern Nevada, a 36% increase in the number of children we serve.“
To meet the growing need, we are also expanding our reach from 98 to more than 100 elementary and middle schools, a 12% increase in schools served that will ensure even more children have reliable access to nutritious food every weekend. As food insecurity continues to affect thousands of families throughout our community, our commitment remains simple: when a child is referred to Serving Our Kids, we will be there every Friday with a weekend meal bag.
These milestones are about far more than growth, they’re about changing lives. It is about giving children the nutrition they need to succeed in school and in life. According to our most recent survey of participating schools, 58% reported improvements in students’ overall health and wellness, 52% observed improved school attendance, and 51% saw improvements in academic performance. Perhaps most telling, 53.6% of schools reported that children share their weekend meal bags with other family members, extending the impact of every bag well beyond a single student.
As demand continues to grow, so does our need for community support. The generosity of our donors, corporate partners and volunteers makes it possible to reach more children every year. Whether packing meal bags, delivering food to schools, supporting fundraising events or serving as ambassadors in the community, every volunteer plays a vital role in helping us feed more children and expand our mission.
While these milestones represent significant growth for our organization, the true impact is measured in the lives of the children we serve.
