Diazo Doubles Down on Child Hunger

Diazo Doubles Down on Child Hunger

Diazo Wealth sponsored an amazing Matching Campaign from February 24th to March 24th. And it delivered far above and beyond expectations.

The campaign began with Diazo’s pledge to match your donations, dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000, and double their impact. But so many of our SOK Crusaders responded that Diazo increased their matching pledge to $15,000, with a new goal of raising $30,000 to help feed food-insecure elementary and middle school children in Clark County.

“We didn’t want to simply write a check,” said Laura Long, Diazo’s Founder and CEO.
“We wanted to create momentum and make an immediate, measurable impact on the children who need it most.”

Thanks to you, we received $16,653 in donations during the campaign. Diazo’s matching contribution brought the grand total to $33,306. That’s an incredible result. But what does this mean for the children SOK serves?

For The Children We Serve

Diazo provides comprehensive investment, retirement and multi-generational wealth planning services. And they’re committed to strengthening the Southern Nevada community through purposeful leadership, philanthropy and strategic partnership.

Diazo has been a long-time SOK supporter. They have provided invaluable financial donations, donated furniture for our offices, and sponsored key fundraising events. Their team volunteers to create weekend meal bags and deliver them to our local schools.

“Serving Our Kids is deeply grateful to the Diazo team for everything they do to help us fight child hunger in our community,” said SOK CEO Laurie Tanakaya. “Their generosity and commitment gives me great confidence that we will eventually win this fight.”

More Than Words Can Say

More Than Words Can Say

As awareness of and support for our mission continues to grow, we want to take some time to recognize the organizations and individuals who have recently provided substantial donations and grant funding to help expand our services.

On behalf of our dedicated volunteers and staff, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your commitment, your trust and your incredible generosity. Your gifts will empower thousands of food-insecure children to dream of a brighter future with unlimited possibilities. A future without fear. A future without hunger.

CEO, Serving Our Kids

If you do the math, these contributions total $204,406. This will help SOK provide more than 75,703 weekend meal bags for thousands of hungry kids during the school year.

New Honors For SOK

New Honors For SOK

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce Foundation has chosen Serving Our Kids as the first recipient of the Diazo Community Impact Award. This prestigious honor recognizes the efforts and achievements of a nonprofit member of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce (HCC) that is driven by passionate, grass-roots volunteers.

SOK CEO Laurie Tanakaya accepted the award at the HCC Leadership & Legacy Awards luncheon on April 10th. She expressed her thanks and appreciation to the HCC, all of the event sponsors, and Diazo Wealth for the award and recognition. But she gave all of the credit for this honor to SOK’s army of volunteer crusaders.

“Serving Our Kids could not feed one food-insecure child without the hard work and selfless dedication of our volunteers,” she said. “They are concerned, compassionate, people from our community who choose to devote their time and energy to help feed thousands of hungry kids every week. Our volunteers are the reason SOK can fight and win the battle against child hunger. And we can never thank them enough.”

SOK Board Of Directors Update

SOK Board Of Directors Update

The SOK Board of Directors helps govern our organization. It sets our high-level direction, develops strategic relationships, approves major expenditures, ensures legal compliance, manages risks… You know, the big stuff.

For example, during our annual Board of Directors meeting, they approved our updated three-year strategic plan that supports the growth of our weekend meal bag program, and increases the number children we serve each school year. Pretty big.

All Board Members have “term limits.” So, each year the board elects several new officers and members with different skills and strengths. And sometimes members move on to pursue new opportunities and interests. But it’s always a moment of positive change for everyone as we embrace what’s next and celebrate what was.

We Are Delighted to Welcome…

And Express Our Deep Gratitude…

To our former Chairwoman and two outgoing board members who have served with diligence and distinction.

Bruce Adler

A special thank-you to Lauri Perdue, who has worked tirelessly as the Serving Our Kids Board of Directors Chairwoman for the past three years. She was elected to lead the board through a new and exciting phase in SOK’s development.

With the organization growing and helping more and more children across the community, Lauri shaped the board’s purpose and impact, kindled valuable community relationships, played a key role in developing our annual events, and became an important partner to CEO Laurie Tanakaya. We are grateful for her passionate leadership and thrilled that she will continue to serve on SOK’s Board of Directors.

Board Member Kelii Chock, Co-Founder of Picture Clean Consulting, has been instrumental in cultivating new community partnerships and developing an innovative rolling strategic planning timeline. This valuable tool organizes and aligns our strategic planning with day-to-day needs, and helps us make better, more timely decisions.

Kelii has also played a major role in two of our major annual events. He served as chairperson for our 2025 Bowl-A-Thon, which, under his leadership, generated the highest net profit in the history of the event. And for years, he helped coordinate the highly popular and successful Helicopter Ball drop at our annual golf event. Kelii will continue to be a big supporter of SOK’s mission and events.

Board Member David Shultis is the Co-Founder of Red Panda Systems, a Las Vegas IT company. During his tenure, David and his company used their expertise to implement new computers and tools that enabled SOK to operate more efficiently and effectively. David’s team will continue to support SOK with technical assistance and expertise, and we are thankful for their ongoing support.

New Year: New Ways to Help

New Year: New Ways to Help

3 Easy Ways to Support Serving Our Kids in 2026

As we begin a new year, Serving Our Kids Foundation is preparing to feed even more food-insecure elementary and middle school children across the Las Vegas Valley. You can make a real difference in 2026 through three simple actions:

1. Donate: Become a Monthly Supporter

Recurring gifts help us plan ahead and ensure consistent support for the children we serve.

  • Give $99 per month and you will provide 35 weekend meal bags every month during the school year.
  • Monthly donations of any amount help us purchase kid-friendly, reliable food items that children count on each weekend.

Your ongoing support turns hunger into hope for students who might otherwise go without.

2. Volunteer: Share Your Time and Talent

Volunteers are at the heart of our mission. There are many ways to get involved:

  • Pack weekend meal bags at our warehouse
  • Deliver meal bags to partner schools
  • Serve as a volunteer supervisor to help lead teams
  • Assist as an event volunteer at fundraisers and community activities

Whether you can help weekly, monthly, or for special events, your time directly impacts local children.

3. Amazon Wish List: Support Our Operations

To help keep operating costs low, Serving Our Kids maintains an Amazon Wish List of supplies needed to keep our organization running smoothly.

It’s simple: click, add to cart, and ship directly to Serving Our Kids.
This “easy peasy” option allows you to support our work from home while ensuring we have the tools and supplies needed to serve thousands of children.

Together, these three simple steps—donate, volunteer, and give through our Amazon Wish List—will help us start 2026 strong and move closer to a future without hunger and without limits for the children we serve.
